Wow! This was a crazy essay. Jean Kilbourne is not just some mom who wants to protect her daughters. In her essay "Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt" she gives a frightening view of the proliferation of demoralizing imagery in advertising. She give plenty of evidence that she is a good source of what she is talking about. What stood out to me is how effective advertising is. most of those ads at first glance don't seem bad, or that bad, but when given a deeper context it can become scary. I think there can be a point where you could read to much into something, but I think she is very accurate in how after years of seeing such images and slogans, that society is being conditioned to think that way.
What was really effective for me in this essay is when she asked you to switch the roles of the people in the ad's from men or boys to girls or women. It definitely changed the feeling of the ad. I also noticed quickly the idea and effects that was portrayed as women dress certain ways or do certain things that leave them exposed to violence. Not to shirk any responsibility from men, but rather that there is almost a mutual agreement that wearing this or doing this entitles the other party to react a certain way. Of course it isn't right, but where do you draw the line. It makes you question what you think or believe. It is abundantly clear that morality is being scorned or looked down upon more and more.
